SEGA and The Creative Assembly respond to Total War fans appeals by re-releasing previously download-only expansion pack onto CD-ROM
SEGA of America today announced that in response to fans'
appeals, Rome: Total War - Alexander, the second expansion pack for
Rome: Total War, will be made available for release on PC CD-ROM.
Previously available only via digital download or as part of the
premium Total War: Eras compilation, Rome: Total War “ Alexander will
now receive a fully boxed standalone release on September 1st .
Rome:
Total War - Alexander has already enjoyed strong success via digital
download and has received great critical acclaim with both PC Gamer UK
and www.gamespot.com
awarding 85% review scores. In keeping with the traditions of previous
Total War expansion packs, Alexander not only adds new content but also
new gameplay based around a brand new campaign game map, spanning
Alexander's unification of Greece and his subsequent conquest of the
Persian Empire. The expansion pack also includes six new historical
battles portraying Alexander's triumphs against the Greek, Persian, and
Indian forces. These will also be available for multiplayer play online
and over LAN in a brand new Tournament mode that enables players to
take on opponents over a series of historical battles.
"Releasing
Alexander via digital download proved to be a great experience for The
Creative Assembly and SEGA as we learnt a phenomenal amount about how
digital distribution works" commented Mike Simpson, Studio Director at
Creative Assembly. "However we also learnt that there are a huge number
of Total War fans itching to play Alexander but without the means to
successfully download it. Therefore we've listened and learned and so
are extending the opportunity for all Total War fans to get their hands
on Alexander via a more traditional route."
The new historical
battles in Rome “ Alexander unlock sequentially, telling a story and
accurately reflecting the conditions that Alexander endured and the
tactics employed by his army. For the first time in the Total War
series, developer Creative Assembly is elevating the production values
and storytelling of its battles by linking them together with seven
high-quality movies featuring the incredible voice talent of Brian
Blessed (Flash Gordon, Alexander, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace). These
movies will tell the epic story of Alexander and provide an in-depth
historical backdrop to each of the battles.
The new campaign in
Rome: Total War “ Alexander will give players the objective of matching
the achievements of one of the greatest generals in Western
civilization. It adds four new factions to the original game, including
the Macedonians and Persians. More than 60 new units are also now
available, including Persian scythed chariots, elite immortals, and all
of Alexander's most famous units, including the Hypaspists,
Phalangists, and Companion cavalry.
